Our Farm July 1st

I mentioned the other day that we are sadly lacking in the rain department, here on our farm. There have been thunderstorms all over the area, but they seem to skirt us more times than not. The other morning, we found that we had gotten a whopping 1/4 inch of rain. Well the ground was nice and ‘damp’, but that’s about it.

Did I mention that we keep getting asked if we have sweet corn yet? The words Sweet Corn are in our business/farm name. We have a rather large sign at the end of our driveway, advertising our farm and our produce. Our business/farm name is at the top, and then beneath, we have boards put up that list each product we are selling for the day.

However, since we did so well with the sweet corn last year, despite the draught, everyone assumes that we have sweet corn to sell this year. And this time the draught has really made a difference. Over half the customers that stop in on a daily basis ask us if we have sweet corn, or when it will be ready. And all I can say is that if we get a good soaking rain, we might have some in a few weeks.

I know that the sign is confusing to people, because since Sweet Corn is in our name – they assume we have it. So my dh, thanks to my nagging for the last couple of weeks – finally put up a little sign attached to the big one, that says NO CORN.

While I don’t mind going outside and greeting the customers, it’s good exercise, I know it’s frustrating to them, for us to have to tell them there is no corn. So hopefully the sign will help. Of course if they see the sign that says no corn, they don’t stop in for any of the other items that we have, even tho it’s not that much.
