143 days til Christmas

Good morning.

Recently we purchased a new mattress and box spring set. The mattress is one of those pillow top, and requires the use of deep pocket sheets. I thought all of my sheet sets – that we had collected over the years – would work. Actually we don’t use sheet sets, we use only the bottom sheet, with light weight blankets for covering.

So whenever I bought a sheet set, I would use the top sheet of the set to make pillow cases – since both my dh and I use 2 pillows each, and I didn’t want to purchase extra pillow cases. Worked great!

Where is this leading in relation to Christmas?  Well, now that I have found that some of my sheets don’t fit the new mattress, what do I do with the old sheets and pillow cases? Now – remember all those artificial wreaths and decorations that you have for Christmas? Make cases and covers for them. Some of the smaller decorations can fit into a pillow case. A wreath can fit into a pillow case, or you can sew two cases together to make one large one. Or take the old sheet and make a pillow case to place those larger wreaths in.

Last year, after Christmas, Wal-Mart had plastic cases and vinyl zippered cases – not real expensive, but if I could use left over sheets and pillow cases, why would I want to spend the money. Also, the sheets/pillow cases let the items breathe, unlike the plastic and vinyl. Decorations become brittle or moldy over time, and I think being in breathable cases works better.

A great way to save money – not only for the cases, but also not having to replace the decorations!!
