Soy Products and Cancer

Just mentioned the problem that I had with licorice and lack of sleep. When I got ready to throw away the licorice, I looked at the ingredients. Wow – Soy was in it.

I had mentioned before that my oncologist recommended that I not eat anything with soy in it – due to the  cancer medication I am on. Arimidex

Started really looking at what I had around the house. The power bars that I love to eat at lunchtime, contain several parts of the soy product. Out they went.

Looked at snacks – they had soy – some soy protein, some soy flour, everything I looked at had either soybean oil or soy lecithin or both.

Wait a minute – everything I looked at had at least soy lecithin including chocolate – my favorite.  Even some of the teas I like to drink have soy lecithin.

I looked at everything – what can I eat that doesn’t have it? Oh sure, I can eat whole foods. No canned. Some frozen vegetables. No frozen dinners. No rolls or bread – those have soybean oil, soy flour and some soy protein. When I eat salad – I like salad dressing – they all have – almost the first ingredient – soybean oil.

I don’t want to get obsessive about this and I’m not sure where to draw the line. Has anyone had any experience with this situation?

Sandi
