Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve tried to get time to make another felted bowl.

Based on my first attempt – I crocheted a couple of bowls, still with a double crochet stitch, but this time with 2 strands of wool yarn.

I still stayed with the Patons wool, but I used one strand of the natural marl, as in my first attempt, and the second strand denim marl from Patons. It worked up fine – much thicker, and I think that will definitely make the bowl stronger.

Ok – on to felting it. Someone had suggested putting the bowl in a pillow case and have a pair of old jeans in the agitation as well.

So I put each bowl in a separate pillow case, a pair of jeans, and set the washer to normal agitation.

After about 30 minutes – it’s still taking a long time, the bowls had shrunk a little – but not enough to satisfy me. I had put them on the bottom of some vases (turned upside down) – and I kept looking, but they were too big, the stitches were still visible -

2nd felting.

Ok – was the problem that I had it on normal agitation? each bowl in a separate pillow case? Have no clue – this time, I just put the bowls in the washing machine on fast agitation – no pillow cases, no jeans – and after a little while – checking twice – they came out so cute! A tweed look in brown and blue. Since I didn’t have a bowl small enough to dry them on – I shaped them by hand.

I took a bunch of pictures – some with stuff in the bowls, so that when I am ready to list on my Etsy shop – I’ll have all the images I need.

I’ve ordered some wool yarn, from a couple of places – different brands. Next I’ll try doing a bowl with half-double-crochet stitch. And then one with single crochet.

It’s been suggested that I do a red bowl for Christmas, and some orange and black bowls for Halloween. This is so much fun!
