Ewww – a black and yellow spider

The other day, I went to gather the eggs and found this:

spider1spider2

I tried to get close to take a good picture, and the dang spider started crawling all over – I backed up quickly!

This spider is called Black and Yellow Garden Spider, Writing Spider, Banana Spider or Corn Spider.

The web of the yellow garden spider is distinctive: a circular shape up to 2 feet in diameter, with a dense zigzag of silk.  I’ve seen the zigzag before when I’ve seen this spider – but it wasn’t formed yet when I took the pictures.

Want to find out more about this spider?  Here are a couple of links.

More information can be found, by using Google and searching for Black and Yellow Garden Spider.

Enjoy!
