Yesterday, I had 2 doctor appointments scheduled, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I figured if I had to be away from home, I might as well get as much done as possible.
My morning appt was at 10am, about an hour away from home. This was with my oncologist, a 6 month appt – since my cancer surgery, radiation and chemo in 2006, I’m now at the 6 month cycle, and won’t be on a yearly cycle, until I pass my 5 year mark. After lab work and the visit – where the doctor told me everything looked fine, I stopped in at the reception desk to say hello to a dear friend, and I left. It was about 10:45 – not too bad.
I had lots of time in between the appointments, as my next one wasn’t until 2:40.
I went to a favorite fabric store in town – the fabric stores in our area are few and far between, which is kind of sad. I browsed for awhile and found a really nice piece of pink ribbon fabric, which has a chocolate background, and pink ribbons on it. There was 2 1/2 yards left, so I took it all. Plan on making a couple of different sized pink ribbon fabric gifts bags to add to my pink ribbon gifts page on my website.
Ok, done in that town – now wanted to drive to the area of the next appointment, which was actually on the way home. This appointment was with an eye surgeon, recommended by my eye doctor. I have a cataract that seems to be getting worse, and he wanted the surgeon to decide if I was eligible for surgery. That appointment, as I said was at 2:40.
On the drive, I stopped in at another fabric store, but didn’t find anything that peaked my interest. Right next door was a yarn shop – I really think this one might be the only one in the whole area – dedicated to yarn only. Found three wool skeins that will work up into felted bowls that I like to make. You can see an example of my felted bowls here.
On to the next stop – this time Hancock’s fabrics near my next appointment. They were having a half price yarn sale – think they are doing away with their yarn in that store. Found a couple of really nice skeins that will make adorable hats. You can see an example of some of the hats I like to make, here.
By now, it was time for lunch – so I stopped at Chilli’s to eat. Nice lunch, nice atmosphere, and it took up part of my waiting time. Since I wasn’t really sure where the doctor’s office was, I wanted to allow myself lots of time to get there, without getting lost.
Found the doctor’s office, went in to make sure it was the right one, and because I had over an hour to wait, strolled down to the nail salon – I had seen it when I was pulling into the parking lot. Ah, time for a pedicure. Got a really pretty pink nail polish and sat ans was pampered.
Still had lots of time, but went to the doctor’s office anyway. Sat down, filled out paperwork and waited. Before long I was called in for my appointment. Went through several rooms where measurements, and pictures etc were taken. Finally got to see the doctor at about 4pm. He determined right away that I was eligible for the eye surgery. Oh my, how fast can we schedule it.
That’s where we hit a snag. First I would need to have a physical with my regular doctor. Since my doctor has moved his practice – which was within 15 minutes of my home, to an hour away, I am in the process of finding another doctor. Then, we will probably start selling produce within the next 3-4 weeks, and eye surgery requires a couple of followup visits that both of us would have to go to, plus another visit to my regular eye doctor – also an hour away. So… this eye surgery will have to wait until near the end of September, when we are done selling the summer produce and not ready yet to sell the fall and winter. Kind of a disappointment – but I didn’t want to rush around trying to get things done. You never know.
After stopping at McD’s to get something for supper – I finally made it home after 6pm. Whew – what a day! I was totally wiped out, and slept really good last nite.
