My husband is an avid hunter. He always gets quite a number of deer during the winter – we always give them away as we do not eat venison.

The other day, I wrote about the fact that sometimes I feel guilty when I do nothing – instead of working on all the chores that need to be done.

Today I did something and I’m not at all feeling guilty! I had to take my car in the dealership for some recall work – and the closest dealer is 45 min away. WELL…

I called my girlfriend who lives in another town, and decided that she would drive over to the dealership, pick me up and we would go to lunch and then a movie – what a plan!

I got to the dealership early, she pulled up a few minutes later and we were off. There is a movie theater nearby that has several movies playing, and then across the street is the cinema cafe. Wow – what choices – however, the movie that we both wanted to see was at the cinema cafe. It’s in the mall, so we were able to get in a nice walk around part of the mall, then paid our $1.00 to get in to the theater, found a comfortable seat, and then looked at the menu!

We split a crispy chicken salad that was divine, with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, sunflower seeds, raisins and pineapple. We also ordered a dessert pizza that had apple crumble that was to die for!

And what movie did we see? RANGO – what a hoot!

While we were in the cinema cafe, the car dealer called and left a message that my car was done. Such great timing! I’m now home, spent a couple of quality hours with my girlfriend, and missed all the heavy rush hour traffic. GUILT – no way – too much fun!

A trip that normally takes [...]]]>

I have a very good girlfriend who lives in another town, and awhile back I was able to buy 2 tickets on line for Elton John’s upcoming concert. As the day got closer, we got more and more excited. We have been to his concerts before and always have a great time!

A trip that normally takes 35 minutes to get to my girlfriend’s house, took me almost 75 minutes – the traffic at the downtown tunnel was almost a dead stop. By the time I finally got through the tunnel there was no evidence as to why it was backed up. As soon as I got there, we hopped into her car. We had reservations for Orapax – a wonderful local Greek restaurant. We each had a small Greek salad – to die for, and shared a spinach pizza – our favorite! Of course it was all too much, so boxed up the rest and booked out of the restaurant. It was around 7pm and the concert was to start at 8pm.

No problem – it should take us only about 15 minutes to get there. HA!

By the time we got to the concert hall, the parking garages were filled and we were directed to additional parking on the campus of the college across the street. Finally found a parking space.

Now, picture this – a walk that would take maybe 5 minutes – we still had 12 minutes before the start.

As my girlfriend has recently had knee surgery – she was not able to walk briskly. Thank goodness an event aid came by with a little motorized passenger cart (like a golf cart) and whisked us up to the door. Once inside, another aid got us a wheelchair for my girlfriend, and off we went to the elevator to get to our seats.

Little did I know how wonderful those seats were. We were tucked into a little corner at the beginning of a row, with no isle beside us, and for the most part, everyone in our row sat, jumped up or danced at their seats. No one stumbling over our feet.

Have you ever been to a concert? One thing you notice is that everyone gets excited when the performer plays/sings a song that is familiar. But have them play new pieces – like Elton John did last night (which were all superb), and the enthusiasm wanes. Elton John played some songs from his new album The Union. Co-singer Leon Russell (a Rock Hall of Fame Inductee) was on hand to sing the songs with Elton.

Picture a concert years ago. A special song starts and everyone is waving their lighters with flames giving off a wonderful light in pace with the song. Last nite was no exception – except now everyone was waving their cell phones! Not exactly the same thing but oh well. What amazed me is people were trying to take pictures of Elton on the stage. And we were fairly up high in the air – so basically it was a small figure in the picture. Hmm, seems to me I remember seeing photographs that I took as a teenager at a concert – the artists were all real tiny

I think we finally got back to my girlfriend’s house about midnight. I had been invited to spend the nite. And I’m a gal who is usually in bed by 9pm. Surprised at how long I was able to stay up. Woke up this morning at about 6:30 and proceeded to have left over pizza for breakfast. Yummy!

Oh, and I forgot to tell you, we saw and said hello to some local TV reporters. That was exciting as well.
