I recently had a customer, Julie, who ordered some table toppers from my collection of Heritage Lace items. She needed them by the end of last week.

It sounded like she was going to use them for some kind of event or activity. I was right!

This morning I heard from Julie that the table toppers had arrived in time and that she was using them for the opening of her garden. Julie also included a link to her garden website – and I was delighted.

Julie and her husband have a 10 acre garden called Oakwood Gardens in Hillsboro Oregon. It is beautiful!

If you visit their website, you will find photographs showing different sections of the garden. Enjoy browsing – you can just imagine the perfume and hear the bees!

In addition to this gorgeous garden, Julie and her husband raise Alpacas.

Here, in Virginia, we don’t normally have really cold winters so we thought it would weather the seasons. Little did I know that we would have one of the coldest and snowiest winters on record. The poor cactus just wilted.

Last year a friend of ours gave us a prickly pear cactus to plant.

Here, in Virginia, we don’t normally have really cold winters so we thought it would weather the seasons. Little did I know that we would have one of the coldest and snowiest winters on record. The poor cactus just wilted.

But guess what, this spring it’s been rejuvenated. And in addition to looking a lot healthier, it also has pods on it that portend the coming of flowers. I can’t wait to see what they will look like.

According to an article I’ve found on line, Prickly Pear Cactus they have yellow flowers that bloom from April – June. And then produce a fruit in August that is a favorite with the birds.

I hope mine start blooming soon, as I’m very impatient!
