I’ve always been a very hard worker. I have a hard time, sitting and doing nothing – because there is always something to work on, some cleaning to do, etc.

Is that a sign of an A type personality? I don’t know, but at times, I feel guilty for just sitting and reading, or listening to music or playing a game on the pc. I know I shouldn’t feel guilty. Comes from a lifetime of always having deadlines and people looking over my shoulder asking why this or that isn’t finished yet.

Today, I woke up very early and could not go back to sleep. So of course, I got up and started working on the computer. And I was able to get a couple of hours worth of work done, before hubby got up and the start of the day was in full swing.

Segue – I have two kittens – one male and one female that are outdoor cats. I have an older female cat who also lives outdoors. The older one, while she doesn’t have much problem with the male kitten, does not like him and gets chased away by the female kitten. So every time the kittens may be off having fun in the woods or sleeping, my older cat will show up on my porch to eat. And I’ll sneak her food whenever she comes by. You can see her – while she eats – always keeping a look-out for the kittens!

Back to the topic of doing nothing. So this morning, the older cat came up onto the porch to eat. Since I had gotten up so early, I went back to sleep for about an hour, and when I got up, the older cat was sitting on the railing of the porch. I try to pay as much attention as I can to her, so that she doesn’t feel like the kittens have taken over!

I went out the door – and sat down on the porch stoop – hard cement – wasn’t going to be able to sit long – but the older cat jumped down to be petted, and I lifted her up onto my lap – and for about a half hour – I did nothing other than pet my cat. I know it’s not really nothing, because she thoroughly enjoyed being the center of attention – but for me, if was a way to vegetate and not let the ‘work’ that needs to be done, intrude.

Maybe I should get a chair or bench with a cushion for outside. Now that the weather is started to get nicer, I should vegetate more often!

This morning, as I was driving back from my doctor appt that I had in Norfolk (about an hour away), the traffic was light and while I should be paying strict attention to my driving, my thoughts tended to wander.

And to be honest, now that I’m home, I don’t remember what I was thinking about that led me to thoughts of our oldest granddaughter.

Between my DH and I, we have 6 children, and 10 grandchildren. 3 of the grandchildren are by my children, the rest by DH’s children. But I claim each and every one of them as mine! That’s what grandparents do.

We may not be able to see the children and grandchildren very often, as everyone has very busy lives. And that too is what life is all about. Seeing them every once in awhile – mostly on holidays or for a weekend cook out during the summer.

Our oldest granddaughter is from our oldest son’s first marriage. As happens with young people, getting married young and having children young, they went their separate ways – but we still had his daughter to our home for get togethers even if it was only for Thanksgiving and Christmas, as she was part of this family.

Many of the pictures on our gallery wall and on the frig are of this granddaughter. So even tho she lived with her mom and step father, we embraced her whenever we could.

That has all changed and we don’t know why. Recently we found out that she had her last name (which is our family name) legally changed to the last name of her step father. While her ‘real’ father and she were estranged, and we could understand that she wanted to honor her step father for being there for her, it hurt.

Not once in the last 18 months has she acknowledged birthday cards, invites to Thanksgiving and Christmas or the Christmas gifts (usually money – as we have no clue what to buy for a teen-ager) we sent her. Nor did she let us know that she was changing her name.

Sure, it would probably have been a good thing for us to call her every once in awhile to see how she was doing, what she was taking in college, how life in general was treating her. Perhaps she is angry at us for not being able to attend her high school graduation. We do not know what has caused this estrangement from the whole family, and probably will never know.

Perhaps, because she has grandparents from her mother’s side of the family as well as grandparents from her step father’s side of the family, she didn’t feel the need to have an extra set. Whatever the reason – we will miss her!

Good luck with your life girl – we definitely will miss you. Your pictures will remain on our wall and frig as we still consider you part of this family. Perhaps sometime in the future – you will consider us part of yours again.

Quite a title! 1 1/2 years ago, I wrote about the trouble with chin hairs.

Recently, I went on vacation to Jamaica with my oldest daughter. We were at a Sandals Resort. In the bathroom, I discovered a mirror that I just had to have! It was mounted on the wall, had lighting, a magnifying mirror and a regular mirror. It swiveled. It was plainly designed for applying make-up, but hey, I don’t wear make-up – but I saw right away that it would help find those pesky chin hairs. And it was only $30.00 compared to the $180.00 mirror I found online.

I know that I’m not alone with this problem. When I got home from vacation, I looked up the model (yes, I did write the mfg and model number down while I was in the resort). But it was so expensive – I figured that it was not to be.

While DH and I were shopping in Lowes one morning – I happened to go down the isle for bathroom fixtures, and there on the shelf was a wall mounted magnifying mirror. The only thing it didn’t have was a light. Well, I have enough light in my bathroom, that we decided to give it a try! It’s now mounted on the wall, swivels, is adjustable – hey what more could anyone ask for!

I’m still struggling with when I want to write about my favorite shops. So far I’ve been doing it on Wednesdays – but I seem to have a lot to write about on that day. I really need to make a better schedule. I don’t want you inundated with posts on the same day – even tho you will completely enjoy them

Perhaps if I mull it over for the next 2 weeks – why? Because I’m going on vacation on the 14th for a week, and I want to come back relaxed and ready to write about lots of things.

I think I’ll brainstorm with my daughter – she’ll be with me on my vacation – and see if we can come up with some interesting topics for this blog.

In the meantime, hang in there – there’s more to come.
