Back in 1994, I found a really neat TV program from the BBC, that was on Sunday nights. I parked myself in the bedroom so that I could watch the hour long show, and also to allow my husband and family to watch what they wanted to watch.

The show was called the House of Elliot.

It’s a story about 2 sisters, who having been under the thumb of their tyrannical father, are suddenly orphaned when he dies leaving them almost destitute and without any education. They take their skills at dress making and start a business. Amid deceit and treachery from a cousin, they make their way creating a business that is frequented by the wealthy.

I really enjoyed the production, and for some reason, the program stuck with me. I recently looked at Netflix – where I get all of my movies, and saw, not only did they have the DVDs for the season I had watched so long ago, but they also had Season 2 and 3 DVDs. Thus I started my delving into what their lives and business were like for 3 years. I finished the last DVD the other nite – I have watched them in bits and pieces, when I was the dishes, etc, so it’s taken me a long time to finish all the DVDs provided. Each DVD had 4 episodes to watch.

Now comes the really bad part about this series. They had left things in an uproar at the last of season 3 – and I guess the production crew anticipated that season 4 would start production shortly after. Alas! No such luck.

The writers of the House of Elliot did not anticipate that the BBC was to pull the plug at the end of the third series. For this reason the third series ends without a firm conclusion to the storyline

And I’m not the only one who is upset. I found countless websites/forums bemoaning the abrupt ending. I almost wish I had just watched the first season again.

Oh well…

Since I love to write, and I love movies, this month’s topic was an easy one to choose. The holiday season will soon be here – what’s your favorite holiday movie or special? Why?

I’m a sucker for tear jerkers! If I find a movie on tv, that I have seen before, and it’s a tear jerker – I always cry at the end, even if I am only watching the last 20 minutes of the movie!

And holiday movies really make the tears flow. It’s a good thing that I watch them every year – so I know what’s going on when the tears come on.

My favorite all time holiday movie is It’s a Wonderful Life. Why? Because it warms your heart to see someone who feels he is so far down that there is nothing left in life – realize that his life is his family, the love shared by that family will see him through all kinds of hardships.

Of course, when watching a movie you have seen before, you know how it ends, but you are so wrapped up in the watching that you feel you are part of it. And the actor’s struggles are your own. And of course, the happy ending is yours as well.

Now if you had asked me what holiday movie is my DH’s favorite – it would have to be A Christmas Story. He could watch it all day long. Me, I can only take that one once…

In case you are interested, I found a site that shows the top 25 Christmas Movies and believe it or not A Christmas Story is number 1! But I still stand by It’s a Wonderful Life – and that’s rated number 2.

My girl friend and I [...]]]>

I don’t usually stay up very late, but DH was out hunting last nite – and I noticed that Mamma Mia was going to be on HBO at 7:30pm – that would put it done at about 9:30 – and DH was not due back before then – so ok, I’m ready!!

My girl friend and I had gone to the movies to see it when it came out – but – I didn’t want to sing along with the movie in the theater – and have everyone hear my bad singing voice.

You should have seen me rocking w/the movie, dancing around, crying, singing… it was very cathartic!

DH got home about the time it was over and we went to sleep – well he did, I had music dancing in my head for hours. Not sure if I got any sleep or not – seemed to just lay there. But that’s ok, it was well worth it!

Yesterday, my girlfriend and I went to the movies – something that we do frequently – we meet at the movie theater which is about 30-45 minutes away from our homes.

We love epic movies and musicals and anything that takes a bit of thought process by producers and directors to create a movie that has lasting appeal!

GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!

I’ll say that it’s an epic film and leave it at that – you will be enthralled. We were told that it was 2 hours and 45 minutes. How I was able to sit in one place and not have to go to the bathroom halfway through will tell you how enthralling it is – I could not take my eyes away from the screen.

Not to mention HUGH JACKMAN!! OMG!!!!!

There is a scene early in the movie that Oprah showed on one of her programs. If you didn’t get to see it – she called it the Shower Scene- just look for it. If you thought  you liked Hugh Jackman before, that will definitely cement your feelings.

I won’t spoil any of the movie for you by giving you any information. Just go and see it for yourself.  And let me know what you think!
